About Us
The women’s prayer support group started over 35 years ago between the years 1982-1983. In the beginning, the group called themselves My Brother’s Keeper. As the years progressed, the name changed to My Sister’s Keeper in honor of the group’s women. Today we are the Daughters of Hope Ministry.
Linda Gary, formerly Linda Hyman, founded the prayer group. Linda was led to start a prayer group after reading an article in the Guidepost magazine on how to form a prayer group in your home. After reading the article, Linda ordered the material. It wasn’t until a year later that the LORD spoke to Linda and asked her when she would get started.
When the group started, seven members, including Linda, were Mrs. Ramona Moore, Ida Green, Constance Lowe, Lynn Winters, Kathy Jackson, and Mary Rhodes. Today the prayer group is still going strong with five members (Linda Gary, Tomiko Hankerson, Minister Constance Lowe, Cornette Cole, and Linda Price ). Geraldine Stancil, a former member and officer is pursuing new interests; she has significantly impacted the group in past years. We pray her future accomplishments will be just as fruitful.
The group meets monthly for prayer and fellowship. The purpose of the women’s prayer group has been for women to come together and pray for one another, for their families, churches, government, and the world. It has been a place where the members could talk about anything that was on their hearts, knowing that it would go no further than the group. The women were there to support each other through the good times and the difficult times.
The name changed to the Daughters of Hope because God changed our vision. Today we are focusing on leading women toward spiritual, emotional, and physical wholeness through applying biblical principles to their lives. We want to equip women to overcome life challenges and find God’s purpose and fulfillment through prayer, teaching, and mentoring relationships. We no longer want to stand back and watch our sister fall, knowing what we do about the power of prayer, for we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus, our Lord! You can plan to join us in the future as we offer small group open forums and retreats designed to strengthen and give hope to all women.
